USMC SCHOOL OF INFANTRYYou will take your ten days of boot leave and then report to the School of Infantry (SOI). The Marine Corps has two SOI's. One is located at Camp Geiger, North Carolina; the other is located at Camp Pendleton, California. While at SOI, you will attend either Marine Combat Training (MCT) or Infantry Training Battalion (ITB). All non-infantry Marines will attend MCT. This includes tanks, artillery, Amtracs, and anything else that is not specifically infantry.

All infantry Marines (0311, 0313, 0321, 0331, 0341, 0351, 0352) will attend ITB. During the School of Infantry, you will be given more freedom and responsibility than you were given during Recruit Training. You are still in the Entry-Level Training Pipeline, so you will not receive as much freedom and liberty as you would if you were in the Fleet Marine Force, but you will notice some differences from your experience at boot camp.
MCT is 29 days long. While at MCT you will work on the weekends. You will occassionaly get a Sunday off, but don't count on it. Even if you get a Sunday off from training, you will likely either have firewatch or have to prep your gear for the upcoming week of training. You will shoot the M-16, M249 SAW, and M203 Grenade Launcher. You will do hikes that vary in distance from 5K to 15K. (For those of you who do not understand the metric system 5K = 3.1 miles). You will learn all the basic skills of a Marine rifleman. You will not earn the MOS of an infantryman. Upon completion of MCT you will be shipped to your follow-on MOS school for training specific to the MOS you signed up for when you joined the DEP.
ITB is 59 days long. While at ITB you will generally not work weekends. Training weeks are from Monday to Friday. You will get liberty on the weekends. While at ITB you will shoot all the same weapons as MCT, plus the M240B. Depending on if you get assigned a weapons MOS, you will also shoot the weapons specific to that MOS, i.e. mortarmen shoot the mortars, machinegunners shoot the machineguns, assaultmen shoot the rockets and demo, anti-tank misslemen shoot missles. You will hike various distances from 5K to 20K. (See paragraph above for metric conversion). All Marines train together for the first four weeks, then split up into their specific MOS's at the completion of week four. Upon graduation you will earn the MOS of either 0311, 0331, 0341, 0351, 0352.
